Culture is the identity of a nation. It is the sum total of all the values tradition, customs. Culture varies from country to country and nation to nation. Bangladesh has its own culture. It has a rich and glorious cultural heritage.
Bangladeshi culture has its uniqueness and richness. The traditional native culture is a blender of native and sub continental mixtures. There are many races in Bangladesh . Bangladeshi culture is influenced by three great religions: Hinduism, Buddhism and Islam. The cultural of our country is a happy blending of many branches of our society. Festivals, music, musical instruments, dance, drama, songs, art and paintings, Jatra, clothing, traditional transportation system are the main elements of Bangladeshi culture.
Our culture has a positive influence on our songs and dress. Cultural motifs are represented in music and traditional clothing. This trend of embracing own rich tradition bears testimony of Bangalees’ deep seated fascination towards their own cultures. The Bangaleees have a long cultural heritage of their own. We have our own language, social customs. We have songs based on rural and idyllic picture of life. We have our own marital systems based on religious rules. We celebrate the 1st Baishakh as the New Year’s Day. We have our own food habit e.g. rice and fish and our dress like Lungi, shirt, Sari and blouse.
However, though we are rich in our own culture, it is now the fusion of culture of other countries especially of India and western countries. This new culture is dish antenna culture which is engulfing the old tradition and culture of our country. People are no longer interested in folk songs or idyllic songs. They are keener to Hindi and English music. Marital systems and celebration have also been made short. Even in dress, people are influenced by culture of other countries. So now we see foreign cultures influencing our own culture which is losing its existence day by day. But time has rung its final bell. We must come forward to saving our culture for the next generation to come.
