Paragraph: The Historic Speech of 7th March

The historic speech of 7th March is a glorious part of our national history. On this day in 1971, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur inspired people to snatch the independence of Bangladesh. On 7 March 1971 millions of people gathered at the Race Course Maidan in Dhaka. Our father of the nation, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, delivered this historic speech. At that time, situation of our country, then East Pakistan, was not favourable. People of this region were facing untold discrimination. In the speech, Bangabandhu proclaimed: “This time the struggle is for our freedom. This time the struggle is for our independence.” He announced a movement in the province, calling for “every house to turn into a fortress”. The speech inspired the Bengali people to be prepared for a war of independence. The speech effectively declared the independence of Bangladesh. Listening this speech people started dreaming for own independent country. Consequently, they joined the War of Liberation that started from the night of 25 March, 1971. The speech was extempore and there was no written script. On 30 October 2017, UNESCO added the speech in its Memory of the World Register as a “Documentary Heritage”.
